A moderately challenging hike that offers fantastic views over Reynisfjara Beach, the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, the ocean, and the cliffs of Dyrhólaey, the hike to the top of Reynisfjall is a must-do if you have a few hours!

In the summer, keep your eyes peeled for puffins as you hike!

The total length of this lollipop loop hike is about 7.2 kilometers (4.4 miles), with an elevation gain of about 275 meters (900 feet).

From the trailhead at Vik, you will see the trail winding up the cliffs. There is trailhead parking (see map).

Follow the winding trail to the top, where you will come to a loop trail that winds around the top of the cliffs and affords great aerial views over the surrounding landscape, including the black sand beach and the village of Vik.

The trail goes down the other side of the mountain to Reynisfjara Beach as well, so you want to make sure you stay on the loop that will return you to the point from where you can retrace your steps to the trailhead in Vik.

Allow about 3 to 4 hours for this hike.
