How to Drive to Reynisfjara Beach
Driving Directions from Reykjavik to Reynisfjara Beach
The driving route from Reykjavik to Reynisfjara Beach is via Route 1 (see map).
From Reykjavik, take Miklabraut/Nesbraut (Route 49) for about 4.1 kilometers (about 2.5 miles) to Route 1.
Drive Hringvegur (Ring Road or Route 1) for 178 kilometers (about 110.6 miles) to Reynishverfisvegur in Mýrdalshreppur.
Make a right onto Reynishverfisvegur (Route 215) and drive for 5.9 kilometers (about 3.7 miles) to get to the Reynisfjara Beach parking lot by Black Beach Restaurant.
If you prefer to park at the cheaper parking lot, watch for it as you drive down Route 215. It comes up at about the 5.7 kilometer mark.

The driving route from Vik to Reynisfjara Beach is via Route 1 (see map).
From Vik, take Hringvegur (Ring Road or Route 1) for 5.3 kilometers (about 3.3 miles) to Reynishverfisvegur in Mýrdalshreppur.
Make a left onto Reynishverfisvegur (Route 215) and drive 5.9 kilometers (about 3.7 miles) to the parking lot at Reynisfjara Beach. From the parking lot, it’s a very short walk to the beach.

Taking the Bus from Reykjavik to Reynisfjara Beach
There is no bus route between Reykjavik and Reynisfjara Beach, but you can take bus number 51 from Reykjavik to the village of Vik, which is close to the beach.
From Vik, take a taxi to Reynisfjara Beach. You may have to arrange with your driver or the taxi company for the pick-up from the beach back to Vik.
The bus takes 3.5 to 4 hours each way, so if you are on a short trip to Iceland, the bus is not an efficient way to travel to Reynisfjara Beach, and you may instead want to rent a car or campervan, or join a guided tour.
