The Legend of the Two Trolls
A local legend describes the origin of the Reynisdrangar sea stacks.
One night two monstrous trolls were dragging a three-masted sailing ship to shore. They were anxious to finish while it was still dark, because trolls can’t be out in the open when it’s day.
But the ship was heavy and it was hard work dragging it to shore against the mighty waves. The trolls lost sight of time, and before they knew it, the sun had risen and they were turned to stone forever.
Another story goes that there was once a man whose wife was kidnapped by two trolls. She died and her husband sought revenge by turning the trolls to stone.
